FIREWORKS DISPLAY MAY BE IN LIMBO AT ELMA

The skies in northeast Elma may not be lit up this August like they were one weekend last year if two Elma councilmen have their way. At a recent Elma Town Board work session, officials for Annunciation Roman Catholic Church at Schultz Road and Clinton St. asked permission to stage their second annual fireworks extravaganza at the yearly picnic held every August. Last year's request was approved with little fanfare, but what transpired after the Aug. 17 event made fireworks of their own.

America’s national symbol didn’t make it through post surgery recovery last weekend. “Montezuma,” the one-year-old female bald eagle, died April 7 after a wing was amputated at East Aurora Veterinary Hospital April 3.
